At What Age Should You Not Consider Dental Implants?

Let’s clear this up the simple way. There usually isn’t a “too old” age. In our Tulsa office, I meet people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, even 80s who want to chew comfortably and smile without thinking about it. If your health is stable and your jawbone is strong enough, teeth implants can still be a smart move.

When age actually matters a little

Two big exceptions:

  • Still growing. Teens need to wait until the jaws finish growing.
  • Healing isn’t predictable right now. If you have an uncontrolled medical condition or active gum infection, we pause, treat that first, and then revisit implants.

That’s it. Not a magic birthday. Just common sense and good timing.

What I look for during a consult

Here is my mental checklist when you sit in the chair:

  • Bone support. 3D imaging tells me if an implant will sit solid or if we should add bone first.
  • Gum health. If gums are inflamed, we calm things down so your implant heals clean.
  • Medications and habits. Some meds slow healing. Tobacco makes it harder too. We plan around both (and cheer you on if you are cutting back).
  • Home care. If you brush, floss, and keep cleanings, your odds go way up.

If a few pieces are missing, no worries. We fix those first, then place the implant when your mouth is ready.

Older adults often do great

Real talk: many of our happiest implant patients are retired. They follow the plan, show up for cleanings, and protect their investment. The result feels natural. They order the steak again. They smile in photos. That is the goal.

If implants aren’t right today

We never leave you without a path forward. Depending on your mouth and goals, we might recommend:

  • Tooth-colored bridges to fill a single space
  • Partial dentures if several teeth are missing
  • Full dentures now, with the option to add implants later for extra stability

These choices keep you chewing while we build a long-term plan.

What a first visit is like

We talk first. What bugs you. What you want back. Then I examine your gums and bite, take 3D images, and walk you through clear next steps, timing, and fees. You leave with answers, not guesswork. If you feel nervous, say so. We have simple comfort options to help you relax.

Why patients in Tulsa choose us

We are a woman-led, patient-first practice that takes details seriously and explains everything in plain language. We are fee-for-service and happy to file out-of-network benefits. We also accept major cards and CareCredit, and our team can help in English or Spanish. Most important, we treat you like family. If an implant is right, we will tell you. If it isn’t, we will tell you that too, and give you a plan that still gets you smiling.

Wondering if you qualify? Bring your questions and your health list. We will check your bone, review your meds, and map out a plan that fits your life. Simple, calm, and honest.
