Dental Cleanings & Exams at Élan
Why Schedule Routine Teeth Cleanings?
Even with the best at home teeth cleaning habits, your mouth naturally hosts a wide range of bacteria from food, drink, and saliva that can quickly turn into plaque. A routine cleaning and oral exam isn’t just for removing that plaque; it’s to prevent cavities, promote gum health, and screen for oral cancer. Prolonging a professional dental cleaning, which should typically occur once every six months, can lead to requiring a deep cleaning procedure, known as scaling and root planing, to get your oral health back on track.
What To Expect During Your Exam & Cleaning
When most patients think of a dental checkup, they think uncomfortable, inconvenient, and oftentimes, fear-inducing or stressful. Until they experience Élan Tulsa Cosmetic Dentistry, that is.
Preventative dental care is made easy at élan. After curating your unique relaxation experience by selecting items from the Élan comfort menu, your routine cleaning and dental exam will begin. Once complete, Dr. Meghan Hodges will conduct a final oral exam to evaluate your overall oral health and answer any questions you may have.
How Often Should You Schedule Cleanings?
At a minimum, routine cleanings should be scheduled every six months. However, many factors contribute to the recommended frequency of dental cleanings. Patients with a family history of gum disease, a high risk of dental caries, and dry mouth should schedule dental visits more frequently to prevent cavities, gum recession, and other common dental concerns.

Gentle & Affordable Dental Cleanings For The Family
Even without dental insurance, dental cleanings are affordable for the whole family at Élan. Not to mention, routine dental cleanings are the #1 way to prevent expensive dental treatment in the future. For instance, wear patterns on your teeth are often discovered during a routine dental cleaning. Catching this early and fabricating a nightguard is an inexpensive, stress-free fix compared to the potential complications of grinding your teeth, such as worn enamel or fractured teeth.

- Frequently Asked Questions
Is going to the dentist every 6 months really necessary?
While it may sound excessive, tartar can start forming on your teeth in as little as 24-48 hours. Once that tartar (dental plaque) hardens, it must be removed by a dental professional as regular, at-home dental tools are only designed to remove soft buildup. In some cases, your dentist may recommend more frequent dental cleanings, especially if you show any signs of gum infection or experience dry mouth from medications. But not to worry, after you experience the Élan difference, you’ll be looking forward to your future dental visits.
Why do my gums bleed during or after a cleaning?
Nearly 50% of adults aged 30 and older have gum disease. Bleeding gums are one of the most common symptoms of gum disease, but it is also completely reversible if caught early on. If your gums bleed during or after a cleaning, you should talk to your dentist about proper at-home dental care to ensure proper technique and ways to improve gum health.
What is the cost of a cleaning & do you accept my insurance?
Élan makes dental cleanings efficient and affordable for the whole family. While the cost of a cleaning can vary depending on the type, routine dental cleanings vs. deep cleanings (scaling and root planing), we offer flexible payment options and take care of the heavy lifting when filing claims to your insurance for reimbursement.
